A fairway wood needs to perform off a tee and off the deck, and those two strikes load the shaft differently through impact. Spine orientation that hasn't been checked can behave inconsistently between the two, which is part of why fairway woods have a reputation for being harder to trust than a driver or an iron.
We test and mark the shaft's spine before pairing it with a head, then verify the combination on both a simulated tee strike and a turf strike on the bay.
